Commander Walter John Phipps, R.N. (17 August, 1899 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Reid's father was W. J. Reid, Esq., gentleman, of North Berwick. When war broke out, he was appointed briefly to the light cruiser Lowestoft and then to the pre-dreadnought Britannia on 25 October 1914. In October 1916, he went to Excellent for a course in gunnery.[1]

Reid was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1920.[2]

He applied to specialise in gunnery and incurred displeasure by claiming expenses of first-class travel between North Berwick and London when in fact he travelled thiurd class.[3]

Reid was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 March, 1928.[4]

World War II

Reid was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 17 August, 1944. He would be granted the War Service Rank of Acting Captain.[5]
