Commander John Reginald Hughes D'Aeth, (7 February, 1899 – 7 July, 1940) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Prison[?] Governor Captain R. H. D'Aeth.[1]

He went direct to sea upon outbreak of the war, serving as a Midshipman in Charybdis, Zealandia and Hindustan before joining the convoy sloop Chrysanthemum as a Sub-Lieutenant in 1918.[2]

D'Aeth was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1919.[3]

D'Aeth was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1927.[4]

D'Aeth was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1934.[5][6]

World War II

Appointed to the light cruiser Gloucester as executive officer on 11 June, 1938,[7] D'Aeth was apparently among the eighteen men killed when she was struck by Italian bombers in the Mediterranean on 7 July, 1940.
