James Douglas Prentice
Commander (retired) James Douglas Prentice, D.S.C.*, R.N. (25 April, 1899 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Prentice passsed out of the Training Establishment in August, 1914 and was appointed to the battleship Jupiter. Later in 1914, he was moved to the battleship Agincourt and then to Erin. He remained in Erin until July, 1917, seeing action at the Battle of Jutland.[1]
Following a course in Torpedo Control in late July 1917, Prentice was assigned to the light cruiser Chatham, in which he served the rest of the war.
Prentice was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 June, 1919.[2]
Prentice was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 June, 1927.[3]
Prentice was placed on the Retired List on 8 June, 1934.[4]
Prentice was promoted to the rank of Commander on 25 April, 1939.[5]
World War II
Prentice was made a temporary acting Commander in the Royal Canadian Navy on 30 June, 1940.
He was reverted to the Retired List on 2 April 1946 and was granted the War Service rank of Captain.[6]
