Thomas Kerr (b)

Commander (retired) Thomas Kerr, O.B.E., R.N. (23 November, 1887 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Falmouth, Jamaica.

He received instruction in submarines in May, 1909 and first served in C 29. Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1910, Kerr remained in C 29 until being appointed to Onyx for command of the small coastal submarine A 9 on 14 November, 1912.

Kerr was appointed in command of the submarine B 5 on 4 March, 1913.

Kerr was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1918.

Kerr was placed on the Retired List at his own request with gratuity on 22 April, 1920.

Kerr was promoted to the rank of Commander on 23 November, 1927.

World War II

Working at Tanganyika in the immediate pre-war years, salvaging the German S.S. Von Gotzen.

He served initially at Basra, vice Black from 1 September 1939. He later commanded H.M.S. Midge.
