Commander (retired) Thomas Kerr, O.B.E., R.N. (23 November, 1887 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

We've added a "(b)" suffix to this page's title, as there was an earlier officer named Thomas Kerr.

Life & Career

Born in Falmouth, Jamaica.[1]

He received instruction in submarines in May, 1909 and first served in C 29. Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1910, Kerr remained in C 29 until being appointed to Onyx for command of the small coastal submarine A 9 on 14 November, 1912.[2]

Kerr was appointed in command of the submarine B 5 on 4 March, 1913.[3][4]

Kerr was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1918.[5]

Kerr was placed on the Retired List at his own request with gratuity on 22 April, 1920.[6]

Kerr was promoted to the rank of Commander on 23 November, 1927.[7]

World War II

Working at Tanganyika in the immediate pre-war years, salvaging the German S.S. Von Gotzen.

He served initially at Basra, vice Black from 1 September 1939. He later commanded H.M.S. Midge.[8]
