Captain Edwin Harold Edwards, D.S.O., Royal Navy (7 December, 1871 – 20 October, 1933) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

On 21 July, 1892 he was confirmed in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant, dated 14 December, 1890. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1893.

Edwards was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1904.

Edwards was thanked by Messrs Vickers for his assistance in extinguishing a fire at their works in 1910.

He was placed on the Retired List "at his own request" on 12 April, 1911 and allowed to assume the rank of Captain.

In June 1914, he was lent to the Turkish Navy. It was decided that it this were to require him to become an Ottoman subject, the question of his re-instatement to the Navy List would be considered. Presumably, the timing of this career move means that it was short-lived!

Edwards commanded the armed boarding steamer King Orry from 18 November 1916 to November, 1917 and was appointed a Companion of Distinguished Service Order on 23 May, 1917.

He was appointed to command the scout cruiser Boadicea in November, 1917.[1]

Married to Elizabeth, he passed away in a London nursing home on 20 October, 1933 and was buried at Chieveley on 23 October.
