H.M.S. Ajax was one of two Agamemnon Class turret ships completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

Re-commissioned at Devonport, 5 August, 1885. She participated in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1890 as part of the Hostile Fleet, tasked with attacking trade routes under the command of Captain Robert Hornby Boyle.

In 1891, she was working with the Coast Guard Service.[6]
