John Needham Knox
Captain (retired) John Needham Knox (10 October, 1890 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Knox was amongst the first batch of cadets to enter the new Royal Naval College, Osborne.[1]
Knox served in Jackal at the start of the war, but fought at the Battle of Jutland with Onslow, which he had recently joined.[2]
After the battle, he was appointed in command of the destroyer Ettrick. In mid-1917, he was placed in command of the Laforey Class destroyer Linnet. At war's end, he was commanding Torch.
Knox served on the staff at Osborne College in 1919-20, up until the time of her closing.
He served as staff officer (operations) to Commanders-in-Chief in China and at Plymouth.
Knox commanded Crusader of the Second Destroyer Flotilla, Home Fleet from 1932-34.[3]
