Renouf Type M[1]

The Type M Renouf Torpedo Tactical Instrument was conceived around 1919 and in 1920 a pair were planned for manufacture so they might be tried.

Concept and Design

The device's function is explained in the Annual Report of the Torpedo School, 1919.[2]

A full description was being promised for a forthcoming edition of the Handbook of Torpedo Control.[3]

History and Deployment

By 1921, only two had been issued, one each to Queen Elizabeth and Barham. At the same time, all types of Renouf instruments were under evaluation for ideas that would render them "less complicated and less liable to foul."[4]
