H.M.S. R 4 was one of ten "R" class submarines built for the Royal Navy.

Service

From at least mid-1927[6] to at least early 1929, she was part of the Sixth Submarine Flotilla, tender to Vulcan.[7]

Captains

Dates of appointment are provided when known.

A Lieutenant in Command S. J. C. Nichols was appointed in command on 21 April, 1930, but I am having trouble identifying him fully.[19]
