H.M.S. L 16 was one of thirty-five "L" class submarines completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

In early 1929 she was with First Submarine Flotilla in the Mediterranean.[7]

By mid-1931, she had become one of two "L" class boats in Group "D" Submarines in Reserve at Portsmouth under the collective command of Lieutenant-Commander Eric Philip Arthur Brooks.[8]
