Edye Kington Boddam-Whetham
Captain Edye Kington Boddam-Whetham, D.S.O. (4 February, 1887 – 27 March, 1944) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Bakewell, Derby the son of a landowner.[1]
Boddam-Whetham was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 July, 1908.[2]
Boddam-Whetham was appointed in command of the destroyer Janus on 21 October, 1912.[3]
He was appointed in command of the destroyer Virago on 20 February, 1913.[4]
Great War
Boddam-Whetham was appointed in command of the destroyer Locust on 25 June, 1914.[5]
Boddam-Whetham was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 July, 1916.[6]
Boddam-Whetham was appointed in command of the destroyer Swallow on 1 September, 1918.[7]
Post-War
Boddam-Whetham was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1920.[8]
He was appointed to Cygnet, additional to become Captain (D), Second Destroyer Flotilla on 26 May, 1932. On 7 June, he was appointed in command of the destroyer Kempenfelt to continue as Captain (D) of 2 D.F..[9]
Boddam-Whetham was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1928 and retired on 2 August, 1939.[10]
World War II
Boddam-Whetham fell ill with smallpox on 13 March, 1944 and was landed at Gibraltar. He seemed better on the 20th, but by the 24th he was paralyzed. Boddam-Whetham succumbed on the 27th of March at age 57.[11]
