Rear-Admiral Eric Gascoigne Robinson, O.B.E., V.C., Royal Navy (16 May, 1882 – 20 August, 1965) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Robinson was born in Greenwich, the son of John L. Robinson, a chaplain in the Royal Navy.[1]

Robinson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 August, 1903.[2]

Robinson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 August, 1911.[3]

Robinson married Edith Gladys on 8 July, 1913.[4]

Robinson was specially promoted to the rank of Commander on 20 April, 1915 in recognition of distinguished service on the night of 18 April when he commanded a force in boats armed with 14-in torpedoes which torpedoed the stranded submarine E 15, thereby preventing her capture in a serviceable condition.[5]

In light of his demonstrated skills in torpedo operations from small craft, Robinson was appointed in command of C.M.Bs. on 14 June, 1918. He kept at this work through the end of the war.[6]

Post-War

Robinson's final stint in command of C.M.Bs. ended when he was appointed to Iron Duke on 22 July, 1919, serving as Fleet Torpedo Officer.[7][8]

Robinson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1920.[9]

Robinson was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 3 January, 1933 and placed on the Retired List the next day in accordance with Order in Council of 9 March, 1914.[10]
