Fire Control

At some point prior to mid 1902, William Henry May examined the fire control communications scheme manifest in the Illinois and found much to covet when discussing British methods of communicating in battle as Third Sea Lord and Controller of the Navy – particularly the simplicity of the system. A follow-up to this observation resulted in Messrs. Cory of New York being asked to quote a complete set of the instruments in the American ship, but the dialog evolved to one primarily of voice pipes and there is no indication of how this inquiry turned out.[1]
