H.M.S. Agamemnon was one of two Agamemnon Class turret ships completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
Re-commissioned at Malta on 17 December, 1890.[6]
In October 1891, it was planned that the Ajax would relieve Agamemnon in the Mediterranean, and that Agamemnon would return to Chatham.[7]
She arrived at Athens on 1 January, 1892 and stayed there about a week.[8] She returned to Malta, where she re-commissioned on 26 January, 1892.[9] On 15 March, she entered Alexandria in company with six other ironclads and two cruisers of the Mediterranean squadron under the command of Rear-Admiral Walter Kerr.[10]
In June, 1892, it was decided that the Channel Squadron's Camperdown, rather than Ajax, would relieve Agamemnon in the Mediterranean, sailing from Portsmouth to do so.[11] Agamemnon was finally ordered home in August,[12] as Camperdown sailed under Captain
