Captain of the Fleet (Royal Navy)

In the Royal Navy, a Captain of the Fleet was a designation bestowed upon the senior Captain in some Fleets or on some Stations. It was not, in itself, a rank per se.
Permitted Retinue
In 1888, a Captain of the Fleet was allotted the Secretary, Flag Lieutenant and Coxswain afforded all flag officers and Commdores, First Class, as well as two domestics.[1]
