Admiral Francis Charles Methuen Noel, F.R.G.S., Royal Navy (5 June, 1852 – 30 December, 1925) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Noel was promoted to the rank of Captain on 22 June, 1897.[1]

Noel was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 10 October, 1907.[2] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 19 May, 1912,[3] and to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 24 October, 1915.[4]

Family Life

Noel and his wife had three children. Mary Penelope (born 10 August, 1887), Francis Methuen (born 28 December, 1888) and Montague Wriothesley (born 12 November, 1892). Mary passed away on 22 March, 1969. Francis, educated at Cheltenham College and employed by the Bank of England, joined the Inns of Court O.T.C. on the outbreak of the First World War and was commissioned into the Devon Regiment. As a Second Lieutenant he was killed leading his men into action on 26 October, 1917. Montague joined the Royal Navy and by the Second World War was a Commander. He died on active service at the age of 48 while in command of H.M.S. Torrent, leaving a wife and four children.

Noel died at his home, 33 Redcliffe Square, London on 30 December, 1925 at the age of 73. His widow, Wilmot Juliana Noel, died at her daughter's house at 2 Childs Street, London on 10 November, 1939.
