Henry Harvey Bruce
Admiral SIR Henry Harvey Bruce, K.C.B., M.V.O., Royal Navy, Retired (8 May, 1862 – 14 September, 1948) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Early Life & Career
Bruce was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1884.[1]
Bruce was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1901.[2]
Captain
Bruce was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1905.[3]
On 5 January, 1910, Bruce was appointed in command of the battleship Prince George.[4]
He was appointed to command the armoured cruiser Defence in January, 1911.[5]
Great War
Bruce took up the appointment as Superintendent of Rosyth Dockyard on 1 June, 1915.[6] He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 27 April, 1917.[7] On the occasion of the King's birthday he was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Civil Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 4 June.[8]
Post-War
On 1 January, 1920 he was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Second Class, or Knight Commander, in the Military Division of the Order of the Bath (K.C.B.).[9]
Bruce was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 May, 1922, vice Sheppard, and was placed on the Retired List on 2 May.[10]
He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 8 November, 1926.[11]
His funeral service took place at St. Michael's, Chester Square, London. Among those present were Sir Henry F. Oliver, Sir Alan G. Hotham and Sir Howard Kelly.[12]
