Admiral SIR Herbert Edward Purey-Cust, K.B.E., C.B., Royal Navy, Retired (26 February, 1857 – 11 November, 1938) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Purey-Cust was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant from the Royal Yacht Victoria and Albert with seniority of 13 September, 1878.[1]
Purey-Cust was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1894.[2] He was appointed in command of the gun vessel Rambler dated 4 November, 1897.[3]
Captain
Purey-Cust was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1900.[4]
Retirement
Purey-Cust was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral dated 21 February, 1910, vice Fraser.[5] In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, dated 19 December, 1912.[6]
Great War
Purey-Cust was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 24 October, 1915.[7] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 1 January, 1919.[8] He was appointed a Commander in the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) on 1 January.[9] In recognition of his services during the war, on the occasion of the King's birthday Purey-Cust was appointed a Knight Commander of the Military Division of the Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) on 3 June.[10]
