Commander (retired) Gordon Lennox Ansell (28 June, 1883 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Ansell was promoted to the rank of Mate 28 August, 1913. At the outbreak of war, he was moved from the battlecruiser Princess Royal to the pre-dreadnought London. On 13 November 1915, he was appointed to the destroyer Syren.[1]

He was appointed to the monitor M.19 when he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant 28 December, 1915 on the recommendation of Cdr. Cardale of Syren. In 22 August, 1917, the Vice-Admiral appointed him to the battleship Agamemnon. In early 1918, he was appointed to Dolphin for instruction in submarines. On 28 May, he was appointed to serve in "E" and "L" class submarines attached to H.M.S. Ambrose.[2]

On 14 September 1920, he was appointed to K 6 as first Lieutenant.[3]

On 1 December, 1922, Lieutenant Ansell took over Group "K" of submarines in reserve, comprised of six "R" class boats: R 1, R 2, R 3, R 7, R 8 and R 9.[4]

Ansell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander 28 December, 1923 while in command of H 30.[5]

He would command Vulcan II from May 1925 until November, 1926. At the same time, he was serving in submarines.[6]

Ansell was placed on the Retired List on account of age with the rank of Commander on 28 June, 1928.[7]
