Lieutenant (retired) THE HONOURABLE Leopold Florence Scarlett, R.N. (17 March, 1889 – 14 September, 1914) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Bournemouth, Scarlett named his mother as his guardian upon joining the navy.[1]
Scarlett was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on 30 July, 1908.[2]
He was appointed to Mercury for a course in submarines on 8 August, 1910 and re-appointed when he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 October, 1910. He completed his instruction in Arrogant and was appointed to Forth for service in submarines on 25 July 1911. He was moved to Cormorant at Gibraltar the following month, but was invalided on 3 December 1912 with tuberculosis. Sent home, he was offered the maximum time to recover his health but was placed on the Retired List as physically unfit on 13 June, 1913.[3]
