Captain Arthur Ronald Farquhar, D.S.C. (Retired) (20 April, 1888 – 30 August, 1978) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Farquhar was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1910.[1]
In 1914 Farquhar was awarded the Royal Humane Society Bronze Medal for saving an A.B. at sea on 1 January, 1914.[2]
Farquhar was mentioned for his services in the bombardment of the aerodrome at Prosecco (near Trieste) on 29 May, 1917.[3]
He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for the "able manner in which he piloted one of H.M. Ships out of Grado Harbour on the morning of 28/10/17, after the order to evacuate had been given. He has always shown the utmost zeal, ability & resourcefulness in action." At the time he was serving in Sir Thomas Picton.[4]
Farquhar was appointed in command of the destroyer Trinidad on 10 August, 1918.[5]
Farquhar was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 October, 1918.[6]
Post-War
Farquhar was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1924.[7]
Farquhar was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Captain on 21 April, 1934.[8]
World War II
In August, 1939, Farquhar was appointed Senior Officer, Second Minesweeping Flotilla.
On 23 October, 1941, he was appointed to H.M.S. Watchful as Base Captain, Yarmouth.[9]
Last Years and Death
Farquhar lived into extreme old age. His final residence was recorded as White's Club, St James's Street in London. He died on 30 August 1978.[10]
