Italy built two "Ardito" class destroyers to a slightly different design than the contemporary but more numerous Indomito class as the Great War approached.
As displacements for destroyers were increasing the world over, they were re-classed as torpedo boats on 1 October 1929 and continued to serve into the 1930s.
