Captain Reuben Burton Coffey (13 August, 1883 – 20 February, 1959) served in the United States Navy.
Life & Career
Coffey was born on 13 August 1883 in Carrollton, Carroll Co., Missouri.
Reuben Burton Coffey and Elinor Gertrude Scollay were married in 1914 in Pennsylvania.[1]
On 19 February 1919, Coffey was assigned to command the destroyer U.S.S. Bush. In April, 1919 he was given command of the destroyer U.S.S. McLanahan. In December 1919 he was given command of the destroyer Toucey.[2]
On 23 March 1934 Captain Coffey was reassigned from the U.S. Naval War College at Newport, R.I. to assume command of the battleship U.S.S. Arkansas.[3]
Reuben died in Newport, Aquidneck Island, Newport Co., RI on 20 Feb 1959 and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia on 25 February, 1959.[4]
