Captain (retired) THE HONOURABLE Henry Athol Scudamore Stanhope, R.N. (29 May, 1855 – 2 November, 1935) served in the Royal Navy. He became the Earl of Chesterfield on 30 January, 1933.

Life & Career

Stanhope was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 December, 1879.

Stanhope was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1892.

On 20 December 1897, the Admiralty expressed its dissatisfaction that Stanhope had lost a confidential book.

Stanhope was invalided from command of Melita in October 1898 and sent back to England. He was found to have regained his fitness on 2 January, 1899.

Stanhope was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Captain on 29 May, 1905.
