Captain Russell Grenfell, R.N., Retired (10 April, 1892 – 4 July, 1954) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born the son of Captain H. H. Grenfell, R.N., Russell Grenfell gained two months' time on passing out of the Training Establishment.
Grenfell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 June, 1914.
Grenfell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 June, 1922.
Grenfell was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1927.
The text of a lecture Grenfell delivered at the Royal Naval Staff College, Greenwich entitled, "The Growth of pre-Jutland Tactics" is found in Dewar Papers DEW/4 at the National Maritime Museum.
Grenfell was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Captain on 10 April, 1937.
