Vice-Admiral Clinton Francis Samuel Danby, C.B., K.B.E. (9 May, 1882 – 30 June, 1945) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Wytham on the Humber, Lincoln the son of Clement E. Danby, Clinton Danby gained three months' time on passing out of Britannia.
Danby was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 September, 1904.[1]
Danby was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 September, 1912.[2]
Danby was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1915.[3]
Post-War
Danby was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1921.[4]
Danby was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 13 February, 1934.[5]
Danby was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 4 November, 1937 and was placed on the Retired List the next day.[6]
World War II
Danby was to be superseded as Admiral Superintendent of Chatham Royal Dockyard in October 1939 by Henry Evelyn Charles Blagrove, but Blagrove died aboard H.M.S. Royal Oak, causing Danby's tenure to be extended until 15 October, 1942.[7]
Danby died in a sailing accident.[8]
