Admiral Francis Spurstow Miller, C.B., Royal Navy, Retired (25 November, 1863 – 6 February, 1954) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Miller was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1897.[1]

Captain

Miller was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1903.[2]

Miller was appointed to command H.M.S. Hawke on 9 July, 1905.[3]

Miller was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 14 October, 1913.[4]

Great War

On 8 August, 1914, Miller was appointed Rear-Admiral at Scapa Flow.[5]

On 18 May, 1917 Miller was appointed to take charge of the northern division of the naval command in Ireland, taking pressure off the leadership in Queenstown.[6] Miller was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 September, 1918.[7] His title at the close of hostilities was Vice-Admiral, Buncrana, and in charge of the Northern Division of the Irish Command.[8]

He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 29 January, 1920.[9]
