Admiral Louis Charles Stirling Woollcombe, C.B., M.V.O., D.L., Royal Navy, Retired (25 March, 1872 – 26 October, 1951) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Early Life & Career
Woollcombe was confirmed in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant dated 14 November, 1891.[1]
Woollcombe was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1893.[2]
Woollcombe was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1905.[3]
On 12 February, 1912, Woollcombe was appointed Member of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) for serving as Navigator of the Medina,[4] and on 15 February he was promoted to the rank of Captain.[5]
He was appointed command of the destroyer Boadicea on 5 July, 1913.[6]
Great War
In September 1916, Woollcombe was appointed in command of the light cruiser Chatham.[7]
He was to have a much larger vessel entrusted to him when he was appointed in command of H.M.S. Malaya in January, 1918.[8]
Post-War
Woollcombe was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 3 May, 1922, vice Wray.[9]
Woollcombe was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 2 August, 1927, vice Royds, and was placed on the Retired List the following day.[10]
