Admiral Thomas Drummond Gilbert (formerly Pratt), C.B., Royal Navy, Retired (4 November, 1870 – 24 January, 1962) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Pratt was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 January, 1893.[1]
He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1904.[2]
Pratt was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1911.[3]
Great War
In October 1913, Pratt took command of Amphion.[4] He was relieved in command by Cecil Henry Fox in April, 1914, and in July was appointed in command of the light cruiser Galatea.[5]
In December 1914, Pratt became Captain of the destroyer Active.[6]
In January 1915, he took command of the light cruiser Yarmouth,[7] remaining with her through the Battle of Jutland where she operated as part of the Third Light Cruiser Squadron.[8]
He was appointed in command of the Thunderer on August, 1917.[9]
He was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 1 January, 1918.[10]
Post-War
Gilbert was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 7 April, 1922, vice Radcliffe.[11]
He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 July, 1927, vice Nicholson, and was placed on the Retired List on 2 July.[12] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 6 October, 1931.[13]
