Captain (retired) Horace George Gorton, (23 March, 1891 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Gorton's father was a clerk in Holy Orders, but was deceased by the time he joined the navy.[1]
Gorton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 October, 1912. He served in Zealandia from 12 October 1912 to 4 February, 1915. He went to H.M.S. Vernon for a long torpedo course. Emerging, he was sent to H.M.S. Maidstone to provide torpedo expertise for submarines.[2]
Gorton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 October, 1920.[3]
Gorton was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Commander on 29 June, 1934.[4]
World War II
Commanded several armed yachts. Granted War Service Rank of Captain on 30 July, 1945.[5]
