Captain (retired) Albert Edward Acheson, (2 May, 1862 – ) served in the Royal Navy and the Royal Naval Reserve.
Life & Career
Acheson entered the service at the rank of Lieutenant on 31 October, 1895.[1]
Appointed to Royal Naval Barracks, Devonport on 21 January, 1896.[2]
He was lent to command the new turbine-powered destroyer Velox for trials on 8 February, 1904,[3] though her first run at sea did not occur until 25 July. She attained a speed of over 33 knots in what might have been an unrealistic demonstrations, as other sources indicate that in later practice she could not reach even 24 knots.[4]
Retired due to age on 2 May, 1907 with the rank of Commander.[5]
After working through the war as a Transport Officer, Acheson revereted to the Retired List on 22 August, 1919. He was subsequently promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) in recognition of war services, with seniority of 11 November, 1918.[6]
