Vice-Admiral (retired) James Wilfred Sussex Dorling, C.B. (12 April, 1889 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Preston, Lancashire, the son of Colonel F. Dorling, James Dorling gained three and a half months' time on passing out of Britannia.

Dorling was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 July, 1909.

Dorling was awarded the Ogilvy Medal for 1912 for placing first in the examination to qualify for Torpedo Lieutenant.

Dorling was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 July, 1917.

Post-War

Dorling was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1921.

Dorling was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1928.

World War II

Dorling was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 August, 1939.

Dorling was placed on the Retired List and promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 30 October 1942.
