Lieutenant-Commander Charles Gill, R.N., Retired (1 November, 1863 – 25 September, 1934) served in the Royal Navy. His correct name was Benjamin Charles Gill, but this was never made his official name on his service record. Curiously, his official date of birth also remained 30 March 1864 despite his actual date of birth was known to be 1 November, 1863 on his birth certificate.

Gill was promoted to the rank of acting Boatswain on 17 October, 1891.
Gill was promoted to the rank of Chief Boatswain on 1 April, 1912.
Gill was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 8 November, 1916.
Gill was to be placed on the Retired List on 1 August, 1919, but it was deferred to 14 August and was later antedated to 30 March, 1919. Perhaps this five month adjustment had to do with the difference between his official and actual birth dates.
