Rear-Admiral John Edwin Home McBeath, D.S.O., D.S.C., C.B. (27 April, 1905 – 28 March, 1982) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of J. H. McBeath of Natal, South Africa, John was educated in Massachusetts and South Africa. He joined the Royal Navy in 1923.[1]
McBeath was promoted to the rank of Leading Seaman on 5 December, 1925.
McBeath was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1931.
McBeath was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 October, 1939.
McBeath was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1941.
McBeath was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1945.
McBeath was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 7 July, 1955.
He served as Chief of Naval Staff of the Royal New Zealand Navy from May 1955 to February 1958, and retired on 7 July, 1958.
In 1973 he would become the High Sheriff of Surrey.
