Captain (retired) Randal Borough McCowen, D.S.O. (18 October, 1883 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in St. Johns, Newfoundland the son of a doctor, McCowen entered the navy as a Colonial Candidate.[1]
McCowen was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1905.[2]
McCowen was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1913.[3]
McCowen was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1917.[4]
He commanded the requisitioned yacht Alacrity from her commissioning in 1919 until she re-commissioned, perhaps in mid 1921.[5]
McCowen was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Captain on 12 August, 1930.[6]
World War II
McCowen was appointed to shore-based roles with the Admiralty with D. of S. and C.N.R.. He reverted to the Retired List on 27 February, 1946.[7]
