Sleipner was a slightly enlarged version of the S 90 class, begun as S 97 and launched on 16 December, 1899.[9]

Service

Upon commissioning she was renamed Sleipner and served as a dispatch vessel at the service of the Kaiser. She was renamed T 97 soon after the outbreak of the First World War, and served in coastal defense and patrol duties, serving in a patrol and escort flotilla during 1917-18. After the Armistice she was retained by the Reichsmarine, serving into the early 1920s. T 97 was stricken on 22 March, 1921 and sold on 26 May, 1921 to a Düsseldorf firm for breaking up.[10]
