H.M.S. Carrigan Head served as a squadron supply ship, a Q-ship and as a commissioned escort ship in the Royal Navy in the Great War. She was known as Q.4 while configured as a Q-ship.
Armament
She was re-armed as her role changed.[3]
As Q-Ship:
- one 4-in
- two 12-pdrs
As Commissioned Escort Ship:
- two 6-in
- two 4-in
Service
Carrigan Head was a squadron supply ship from 4 August, 1914 until 1 April, 1916. She was converted for use as a Q-ship on 1 June, 1916 and served in that capacity until 2 August, 1917 when she was converted for use as a commissioned escort ship. As such, she saw repeated trips across the Atlantic from London to the Eastern U.S.. She left Royal Navy service in 25 February, 1919.[4]
