Admiral SIR Bertram Sackville Thesiger, K.B.E., C.B., C.M.G. (14 January, 1875 – 12 May, 1966) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Thesiger was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant dated 14 April, 1895.[1]

Thesiger was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1912.

He attended the Royal Navy War College from 3 March 1913, placing second of nine captains.

Having just completed the War Course at Portsmouth, he was appointed to Pembroke for command of the War College at Chatham on 12 April, 1913.[2]

He was appointed command of the destroyer Inconstant on 25 October, 1914,[3] through the Battle of Jutland.[4]

He was appointed command of the battlecruiser Inflexible on 21 August, 1917,[5] and of the light cruiser Calypso in November, 1917,[6] staying with her at least through the surrender of the German fleet.

Thesiger had a late command stint in King George V, being appointed on 26 October 1920[7] and staying until possibly as late as 1923.
