Admiral Atwell Peregrine MacLeod Lake, Royal Navy, Retired (11 April, 1842 – 27 August, 1915) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

Lake was promoted to the rank of Captain with seniority of 3 January, 1881.[1]

On 23 July, 1890, Lake was appointed to assist Vice-Admiral Sir George Tryon during the annual manœuvres.[2] This was described by the Naval correspondent of The Times as "the first time, I believe, in the history of the British Navy, a Chief of the Staff has been appointed to assist the British Admiral in the discharge of his arduous and multifarious duties."[3]

Lake was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to Queen Victoria dated 1 January, 1893, vice Fullerton.[4]

Lake was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 11 March, 1896, vice Kennedy.[5]

He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 9 September, 1901, vice St. Clair.[6] In accordance with the provisions of the Orders in Council of 22 February, 1870, and 5 August, 1875, he was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 1 July, 1902.[7] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 24 May, 1905.[8]
