H.M.S. Vulcan was completed as a second-class torpedo boat carrier, but was converted to a submarine depot ship before the Great War.
Service
Vulcan converted to a depot ship in 1908-09.[Citation needed] She was commissioned in that role at Chatham on 5 January, 1909.[6]
In mid-1913, she was in Dundee supporting a the "C" class submarines of the Seventh Submarine Flotilla.[7]
She continued serving with the Seventh Submarine Flotilla 1914-16, then for various flotillas at Humber, Berehaven and Blyth.[8]
