Admiral Edward Henry Meggs Davis, C.M.G., O.B.E., J.P., Royal Navy, Retired (18 August, 1846 – 6 October, 1929) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 4 April, 1870.[1]
Davis was specially promoted to the rank of Commander, for services at the Cape of Good Hope, with seniority of 14 August, 1878.[2]
Davis was promoted to the rank of Captain on 1 January, 1887.[3]
He was appointed command of the battleship Royal Sovereign on 8 June, 1897.[4]
He was appointed command of the battleship Howe 19 March, 1898.[5]
He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 13 March, 1901, vice Pearson.[6]
He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 8 June, 1905, vice Brackenbury,[7] and, in accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, on 26 June.[8] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 5 November, 1908.[9]
