A Possible Shot Scale was a sight bar attachment for a Torpedo Director with markings on it which permitted the user to easily answer the question, "Is the enemy presently within range of my torpedo?" It eliminated the need to perform mental arithmetic as imposed by the earlier Graduated Sight Bars.

Each torpedo director would have a separate possible shot scale for each torpedo speed setting available to its weapons. For reasons of practicality, they were printed with separate settings on each side.[3] By 1910, instructions for manufacturing these were being placed in all director boxes.[4]
