As of 1901, while serving as a Port Guard ship,. she was slated to receive a "1 to 52" W/T set.[1] In his memoirs, Captain Henry L. Fleet relates:

On the conclusion of this trip [to the Channel Islands in January, 1902] we went to Portsmouth to have the wireless installed. It was estimated that it would take several weeks, and the Admiral became unhappy at the idea of being deprived of his flagship.[2]
