Paymaster was a rank in the Royal Navy from 1852 to 1918.

History

Around 1842 Pursers became "Paymasters and Pursers".

On 20 March 1852 the Admiralty announced that Paymasters and Pursers were henceforth to be designated "Paymasters of the Navy". The active list of Paymasters was limited to 300.[1]

In 1918 Paymaster was renamed Paymaster Lieutenant.[2]
