In 1895, she was one of twenty-three torpedo boats of at least 125 feet in length stationed in Portsmouth along with four smaller ones.[5]
In 1904, T.B. 82 collided with T.B. 86 while under the command of Hugh William Innes-Lillingston.[6]
Sold initially to Stanlee of Dover, but then resold to J. E. Thomas on 22 October, 1921 alongside her sisters T.B. 85 and T.B. 86.[7]

The Times reported that Alan Montagu Yeats-Brown commanded this boat and Arthur Kipling Waistell in the T.B. 109 in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1903,[46] but their service records state it the other way around, and Yeats-Brown has an inspection report for T.B. 109. I've decided the service records are more reliable in this instance.
