Vice-Admiral Alexander Robinson Palmer, R.N. (23 May, 1879 – 14 December, 1963) [1] was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Palmer gained a full twelve months' time on passing out of Britannia.
Palmer was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 January, 1900.[2]
Palmer was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1911.[3]
Palmer was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Thames on 14 January, 1914.[4]
Great War
On 21 May, 1916, Palmer was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Juno.[5]
Palmer was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1917.[6]
Post-War
In late 1924, Palmer was admitted to Plymouth Naval Hospital to be observed for a digestive disease. He was declared fit on 15 November. He returned in 1926 with bronchial complaints, being returned to health on 5 May.[7]
Palmer was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 25 March, 1929 and placed on the Retired List the following day.[8]
Palmer was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 11 February, 1934.[9]
Palmer offered his services in 1937, but his further involvement with the service seems only to be intermittent admittances to Haslar Naval Hospital for gastric ulcers.[10]
