Lieutenant Walter Borrowes, R.N. (22 September, 1892 – c. 4 January, 1915) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Baronet Major Sir Erasmus Dixon Borrowes of the North Staffordshire Regiment, Borrowes passed out of the Training Establishment on 15 May 1910.[1]
Following some time in H.M.S. Collingwood, Defence and Indomitable, Borrowes was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on 30 June, 1913.[2]
Following brief stints in Wear and Vigilant, Borrowes was appointed to Dolphin for submarine instruction on 23 May 1914. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 July, 1914 and completed his training as the war began. He was appointed to E 8 on 25 September, but was transferred to C 31 on 14 November, 1914. Borrowes died when C 31 was lost to an unknown cause off the Belgian coast in early January, 1915.[3]
