Admiral SIR Charles Saumarez Daniel, K.C.B., C.B.E., D.S.O. (23 June, 1894 – 11 February, 1981) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Major C. J. Daniel, late of the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.[1]
Soon after being appointed to his first ship, the battleship Orion, in April 1912, he was admitted to Plymouth Hospital, having sustained a contusion on his left elbow. He continued to serve in the battleship until October, 1917, seeing action at the Battle of Jutland.[2]
Daniel was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 May 1916. This was adjusted to 15 December, 1915.[3]
Daniel was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 12 December, 1923.[4]
Daniel was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1928.[5]
Daniel was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1934.[6]
World War II
Daniel was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 12 January, 1943.[7]
Daniel was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 23 August, 1946.[8]
Daniel was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 1 May, 1950.[9]
He was placed on the Retired List on 15 March 1952.[10]
