Lieutenant-Commander (retired) George Henry Newman (9 June, 1883 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Newman was promoted to the rank of Acting Mate on 28 August, 1913. His confirmation in the rank was dated the same day. Early in the Great War, he served in Saracen and Stour.[1]

Newman was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 28 May, 1916. Stour paid off the following day. Newman served in Garland and Archer[2] before being appointed in command of the destroyer Welland from 17 August, 1918[3] through March, 1919. For one unspecified month (possibly in 1915?) he was in command of the destroyer Beaver when her commanding officer was ill.[4]

In November 1919, he was lent to the Royal Australian Navy for two years. He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 22 June, 1920. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 28 May, 1924.[5]
