Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. Charles Arthur Peal, (5 August, 1881 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.
Life & Career
Peal was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 18 October, 1909.[1]
Peal was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 18 October, 1917.[2]
Peal's convoy sloop Rhododendron was lost in action to U 70 on 5 May 1918 after less than two weeks in commission. He was tried by Court Martial for "not using utmost endeavours to engage enemy", "desertion of post" and having "negligently or by default suffered his ship to be lost." He was deprived of all accrued seniority as a Lt. Cdr. (leaving him now at 31 May 1918), dismissed the ship, and severely reprimanded.
Peal was appointed to the Russian protected cruiser Askold from 23 July 1918. He impressed C. S. Wills with his competent work.
Peal was placed on the Retired List on 11 December, 1920.[3]
